Imagine a man a playing his trumpet in a wardrobe full of clothes. That's my Dad, trying to save his passion and his marriage at the same time. 

Mum likes the trumpet, but she'd rather hear it from Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis or Dizzy Gillespie than my father's pursed lips.

My parents still have their marriage. Dad still has his trumpet.

I originally drew this for my mother as a card for her birthday.

The woman is a manic gardener. Her garden is one big fist of flora – plentiful varieties jammed into together and bursting out into the world. It's wonderful.

The birds seem to like it too. The garden is home to many native birds and quite possibly the odd brown snake.

Mum also has a bird bath generous enough for backstroke laps. Naturally, the birds behave like it's summer all year round.

They just have trouble striking up a decent conversation with the watering can.
